30 designers, architects, artists and photographers have been nominated for the 2016 sponsorship award of the City of Munich. They will be given the opportunity to show their work in the Lothringer13 Halle, the premises of a former machine factory. The question we asked ourselves as participating nominees was: What could we as architects offer to the exhibition spaces, to the visitors and participants, that in the best case would be an enrichment for the place and the event, a bonding agent between the physical reality of the space and its temporary content? The history and construction of the hall, on the one hand, and the diversity of the works shown and disciplines represented, on the other, were the starting points from which we developed our contribution.
The unused crane arms, hermaphrodites between architecture and tool, gave the impulse to build a small mobile: A construction for film projections made of steel profiles and boat tarpaulins. A film is projected onto the tarpaulin, which is itself a construction made of video material that could only be created in the context of the exhibition: 60-second short videos that were shot by the co-nominees at our request and assembled by us into a video montage. The footage shows their studios, workshops and offices. The intimate, cinematic insight into the working worlds of the co-nominees springs from our own curiosity to get to know the places where what is exhibited is thought and made. A bench and a standing table made of aluminum and stainless steel, prototype samples of an outdoor furniture system we developed, invite you to linger and watch for a while.
